"Il Giardino dei Semplici" opens the door to spring

From 1 April, with summer hours and reduced admission for the entire month

     "Il Giardino dei Semplici"opens the door to spring. From Tuesday, April 1, reopens to the public the Botanical Garden of the Museum of Natural History (Via Micheli, 3), with summer hours: Monday to Sunday except Wednesdays, from 10 to 19. And for the entire month of April, the entrance fee will be reduced to € 3.

     With the reopening to the public, visitors can participate to a botanical event: in cold greenhouses of the Garden dei Semplici it is blooming for the first time the oldest example in Italy of Doryanthes Palmer (pictured). The plant, native to Australia, blooms very rarely in western botanical gardens and at the time of maximum development of its inflorescence can reach 5 meters in length.

     The Botanical Garden also is enhanced by a new space, the Ostensio, a classroom that will be dedicated to exhibitions and laboratory activities.

     In April, it also inaugurates the series "Sundays at the Museum", to learn about the natural world by playing and experimenting with the Museum's collections. It starts with 13, the first appointment of a calendar that includes workshops for families and meetings that will take place in Villa Il Gioiello (the final resting place of Galileo Galilei, on the hills of Arcetri, see our article here), in the Ostensio of the Botanical Garden and a new classroom of the Observatory, Section of Zoology of the Natural History Museum.

     Finally, remember that right at the Observatory (Via Romana, 17) are opened to the public the Hall of Skeletons and the astronomical Torrino that can be visited with a guide all weekends and public holidays, from Saturday, 12 and Sunday, April 13th (see our article here).
